Working on WIPs

I have been doing lots of little bits of sewing this past week, just working on whatever takes my fancy at the time.  So I thought I would show you all the small amounts of progress I have made. WIPs are Works In Progress, which to be honest is the current state of most of my needlework.

Kicking us off are two rosette centres for my La Passacaglia quilt. This is a part of a very large and complicated English Paper Piecing design. I am doing a Halloween theme.

I just bought the black bat and moon fabric (from Tula Pink's De La Luna range) and I wanted to get stitching with it straight away. It's perfect for this sort of fussy cutting. I am making very slow progress on this quilt, partly because I haven't bought the blender fabrics I need to finish off the rosettes. I am hoping for it to be finished by Halloween 2020 but realistically it may well take longer than that.

Next up, starting the 2019 #fussycutting sewalong.

Decided to greet the new shape with a fanfare. There's so much enthusiasm for the sewalong this year, I think this is my most liked and commented post on IG of all time.

And because enthusiasm is catching, I started making a second star. You can vote for which layout I go for on IG. At the time of writing, the second one is miles ahead.

I am not putting limits on myself for this sewalong, I will do as many stars as I feel like each week and work out what to.do with them all later. These are 1.5 inch diamonds, but I expect to drop down to 1 inch in sections week because that gives more possibilities.

My Fussy Cutting Forest quilt is making quiet progress. I made two replacement hexie flowers for the ones I sent to Naomi, and added 3 units to the ones already sewn together.

I now have 12 out of 52 units stitched together and have added some extra large hexies to the units at the side.

Not the best photo, I had to stand in a pretty precarious position to fit it all in.

More on the hexie flowers and the quilt as a whole here, here and here.

In some small moments of free time, I did a bit of quilting on my scrappy hexie hearts wall hanging. My quilting hoop looks like this:

You can read my previous post about this project here.

And finally, I did a test block for the Log Cabin Swap. I made an attempt at machine foundation paper piecing, but that was such a disaster with the tiny pieces that I decided to hand piece. Here's the result.

It's wonkier than I would like, but that seems to be popular with my group on IG. I have worked out how to speed up the process a bit too. Here's a sketch of the pattern I decided on, based on my partner's mosaic and likes.

You can see my initial pattern doodles here. I think you'll agree this is quite different from those.

And finally, I made some progress on my current cross stitch project, a pattern called Merlin the Wizard, that I am making in honour of my daughter. I got some of the threads for it for Christmas. The darker purple is what I added this week.

Wow, enumerating it all like that really does show how productive I have been this week. Maybe there's hope I might actually get some finishes in 2019.

Thanks for reading!
