And more Halloween La Pass

Image
Hello everybody! Seeing as I am feeling re-enthused about my Halloween La Passacaglia project, I have been making steady progress on it. I have been looking at getting the bits I have joined together. Last time, I managed to add a smaller rosette to one of the large purple rosette.  I used this to be able to join on one of my odd-shaped side bits. I then added in some grey path and attached two more rosettes to the side of the large purple one. I have expanded this rosette: And then used it to join my two larger sections together! It's now too big to be able to photograph straight in my kitchen or lounge. Having so much of it joined on to each other like this is really motivating to me, it very much gives me a sense of everything coming together.  I have also been expanding the quilt other places. The second main orange rosette, which will sit in the lower right quadrant of the quilt, has finally had some more white bits added to it. This rosette, and the ones surroundi...

Back to La Passacaglia

Hello everyone! I thought it was a time for an update on my  La Passacaglia quilt. I have been slowly working on the large purple rosette. However, it has been going very slowly, and even stalling for weeks at a time. The outer ring isn't stitched on, it's just sitting in the place it will go. The reason for this is that I have been finding all the tiny triangles a bit tedious.  This is a bit of a problem, as there are still literally hundreds of these triangles left to go in the quilt. But I treated myself to a whole bunch of new fabrics at the Festival of Quilts! And this has given me the motivation to put the large purple rosette to one side, and stitch some other parts for now. I have been using the new fabrics to expand some of the smaller rosettes. I have even managed to join one of these on to the larger chunk of rosettes that have been joined together. The other new one connects to the large purple rosette I just put to one side. So I stitched together a couple of bit...

Playing with my birthday fabrics

Image
Hello everybody! Yes, I am still working on this quilt, so I am going to continue to make you lot look at pictures of it as well. My lovely generous siblings organised amongst themselves to buy up my full wishlist of fabrics for my birthday in December, so I got these three lovely bundles to work with: I now have enough purples and oranges to complete the quilt (although I will still need some more greys, blacks and especially whites). So obviously I've started playing with the new fabrics! Here are some new rosette centres. But the real place I have been able to make a difference is the second large purple rosette. This rosette has been growing steadily. I have had the skulls earmarked for this place for some time, but I didn't have the purples to put in before them. Which means there is just one more round to go on the large purple rosette! And then I can think about joining it up with two of the smaller rosettes on one side. I think I have enough of the greys I need to join...

Even more Halloween La Pass

Hello everyone! I know October is over, but I really seem to have caught the bug for this quilt, so I have been keeping on, making some steady progress with it. Here's what it looked like when I pulled it out to start work on it again a few weeks ago. And here's where it is now! I am still very much lacking in suitable fabrics that read white, however one of the beauties of English Paper Piecing is that you can sew the pieces together in whatever order you like, so instead of waiting until I have everything I need, I am working with what I've got even if that means leaving weird shaped gaps all over the place. There are still 11 rosettes I haven't started yet, and the diamonds in between the stars are proving a particular challenge to work on What I do have is enough grey to make a decent start on the grey pieces. This has allowed me to join two of the large rosettes together. I also have olenty of black fabrics, including a new pirate one (thanks, Mum, for buying it fo...

Halloween La Pass continues

Hello everyone! I have been very quiet on here recently, and that's mostly because I have stalled a bit on the #focuscuttingsewalong. But I haven't lost my sewjo entirely, and the onset of the spooky season has me pulling out my Halloween La Passacaglia quilt to work on again! It's been a while since I have done anything on this, so the first thing I did was lay out everything I have done so far, as a sort of stock take. It's a bit less than I thought, but not to worry. I am still limited in what I can do on this, due to lack of fabrics, but I think I was putting some more artificial limitations on myself, telling myself I couldn't so certain parts until other parts (that I don't have fabric for) were done. I have taken these limitations away and that has felt incredibly freeing, because now there is a LOT I can do without any further fabric purchases. I started by deciding I needed to join the two large rosettes together with a grey path of stars (there is an o...

More Halloween La Passacaglia - and Spoonflower Shop!

Image
Hello everyone, My Halloween La Passacaglia quilt has been slowly rumbling along in the background, so I thought it would be good to update you all. As I mentioned in my last update , I was feeling frustrated by the lack of fabric available that suited my specific vision for this quilt. However, I then reasoned that not being able to do everything I wanted was not the same as not being able to do anything I wanted, so I have been doing my best to work with what I already have as much as possible. So I expanded two rosettes, and made another rosette centre. And I have been doing several odd-shaped bits from around the edges of the quilt that aren't strictly rosettes, but are needed to fill in some of the unusual shapes created by the pattern. I found a good orange Egyptian mummy fabric on Spoonflower, that is perfect for one of the larger rosettes.   For this one, I wanted to highlight a butterfly type shape within the pattern. Although being as this is Halloween themed, I shou...
